With strong connections to the area, they are passionate advocates for local dairy farmers, working to support and promote the agricultural industry that is vital to the community. Their commitment to family and local farming reflects their deep-rooted values and strong ties to the region.

With expertise in advanced diagnostics, genetic sequencing, and herd health management, we work tirelessly to provide accurate results and valuable insights. Together, we’re committed to empowering farmers, promoting sustainable practices, and ensuring the success of every dairy operation we serve.

Rick VerHoeven
Rick VerHoeven has built a distinguished career that spans over 35 years, reflecting a lifelong commitment to advancing knowledge and improving practices across various fields. With expertise in animal health, food safety, medical research, product development, and education, Rick has established himself as both a practitioner and a dedicated researcher.
His academic background is robust, including a Bachelor's degree in Biological Science and a Master's in Microbiology, complemented by advanced coursework in Anatomy, Physiology, and Immunology. His dedication to intellectual growth is exemplified by his attainment of a Master’s level Fellowship from the Colson Center for Worldview, which highlights his belief in integrating faith and learning into his work.

Throughout his career, Rick has made substantial contributions to various industries. As a medical research scientist, he focused on cancer research, producing two peer-reviewed publications in Biochemical and Molecular Biology journals. In the food manufacturing sector, he led a transformative $3M project that optimized product flow and safety protocols, collaborating closely with USDA representatives to elevate industry standards.
His unique blend of practical experience and academic knowledge has enabled him to drive significant advancements in both research and practice. Rick’s curiosity and commitment to improvement led him to establish three separate research and diagnostic labs over the past two decades, including the original microbiology lab for GHC Labs in Filer, Idaho, early 2014. These labs have provided valuable diagnostic capabilities, allowing Rick to apply his scientific expertise to real-world problems in agriculture and food production.
Outside of work, he is an active community member in the Magic Valley, enjoying outdoor activities that reflect his passion for his family and adventure.

Kathi VerHoeven
Kathi was raised in the heart of the Magic Valley, where she attended and graduated from local schools before starting her family and pursuing her Bachelor's Degree in Business Management. With extensive experience in both corporate and startup environments, Kathi has built a diverse career, holding leadership roles at renowned organizations including Hunter Douglas Window Fashions, Somfy International, and Vacasa.

Currently, Kathi serves as the Head of Growth for HostGPO, where she drives strategic initiatives and expansion. She also leads as CEO of Southern Idaho Dairy Lab and contributes her expertise as a member of the Advisory Board for Sojourn Luxury, based in Washington, D.C. Kathi is deeply committed to fostering innovation, supporting sustainable business practices, and empowering growth across industries.

In her free time, Kathi enjoys teaching her grandchildren how to ski, hosting family gatherings, and embarking on new adventures with her husband, Rick. Whether on the slopes or in the great outdoors, Kathi treasures the moments spent with loved ones and the memories they create together.

Wendy Steen
Wendy was born and raised in the Magic Valley, where she grew up helping out on her family's farm and dairy, fostering her love of animals from a young age. Wendy began her journey as a lab technician at GHC Labs over 10 years ago, starting in the dairy microbiology, forage and wet chemistry labs, honing her skills over the next four years. Career opportunities and their mutual love of adventure moved Wendy and her husband away from the Magic Valley for a time.

Upon their return, Wendy continued her growth in the field of dairy microbiology, conducting quality control on milk samples. Over 3 years ago, she rejoined Southern Idaho Dairy Lab, formerly known as GHC Labs, rising to the position of Lab Manager. She enjoys the impact she makes on the health of dairy cows and calves.

When she’s not at work, Wendy and her husband enjoy camping with their cat, mountain biking down ski slopes, and lake kayaking.
